What is an e-cockpit?

An e-cockpit is an advanced digital system for vehicles that combines instrumentation, infotainment, and other electronic functionalities into a single electronic control unit (ECU). This system replaces traditional analog or hybrid panels with a digital display for instrumentation and a central multitouch display for infotainment services. Additional passenger displays can also be included.

E-cockpit key features include:

ART's Innovative E-Cockpit Systems

ART e-cockpit systems stand out by integrating key user interaction services, such as functional safety, information, and entertainment, into a single system that is interconnected and connected with the rest of the car as well as the outside world in a V2X (Vehicle-to-everything) perspective.

Since generation 8 of the infotainment platform, ART has introduced the concept of the e-cockpit, using an innovative technological approach that merge the two Functional Safety + Entertainment domains in a single architecture that guarantees complete physical separation and total reliability and continuity of safety-related services, even in the event of issues or errors in the entertainment part. Thanks to the hardware separation, the result is, to all intents and purposes, identical to architectures with separate instrument panel and infotainment, but it offers the advantage of having everything in a single control unit (ECU), thus reducing costs, weight, wiring and complexity of the vehicle architecture, increasing at the same time the overall performances. This is all in addition to the fact that the integrated system also allows the continuous, seamless exchange of information between the two domains.

With a view to future proof/innovation and continuous improvement, ART platforms have been developed with modular HW and SW architectures that allow for the expansion of functionalities via OTA (Over the air) updates, e.g., complete customization according to customer requirements in terms of: radio type, number and technology of video inputs and outputs, connectors, interfaces (CAN, BroardR, MOST, USB, LIN, etc.).

ART products are designed to be efficient and to have a low impact on vehicle architecture by integrating, ADAS (surround parking system) and entertainment services such as passenger entertainment (passenger display and related content) and rear seat entertainment (video, gaming, vehicle functionality).

Our e-cockpit platforms support up to five simultaneous displays, offering an immersive experience for all vehicle occupants.
