What is a 3D Surround Parking System?

A 3D surround parking system is an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) designed to support drivers during parking activities. Utilizing at least four cameras and an electronic control unit (ECU) for real-time image processing, this smart parking system provides a 360° view of the vehicle’s surroundings. The park assist feature makes parking safer and more manageable by offering drivers a comprehensive view of obstacles, pedestrians, and other vehicles, ensuring enhanced safety and convenience.

Our system integrates data from parking sensors, cameras, and other sources to deliver a high-resolution, photorealistic 3D render of the vehicle in relation to its environment. This advanced integration allows the driver to visualize virtual obstacles, dynamic parking lines, and additional information on-screen, helping to prevent potential collisions during parking maneuvers.

The system merges all the information from sensors distributed around the car’s perimeter and from the cameras, providing a comprehensive view that enhances safety and ease of use. The ultra-wide-angle view and high resolution of ART cameras allow for clear distinction of pedestrians, obstacles, and moving objects during all phases of parking, whether entering, positioning, or exiting a car park.

The advanced computing power of the ART control unit (ECU) ensures perfect stitching of all video feeds captured by the cameras, resulting in a smooth, real-time 3D reconstruction of the vehicle. Depending on the specific scenario and maneuver, the system can highlight critical points and obstacles, providing a complete and immersive parking experience.

ART’s 3D surround system consists of four specially designed Automotive cameras specially designed and built by ART, a powerful ECU, and an integrated software suite. In our latest ARTIST10 platform, the surround functionality can also be integrated as a software component, eliminating the need for an additional ECU, and further streamlining vehicle architecture.
